Calhoun, B. B. Dinosaur Detective: The Raptor’s Claw (published in 1995 by Scientific American Books for Young Readers, New York City, NY). B. B. Calhoun is a published author of children’s books and young adult books. Some of Calhoun’s series include His and Hers, the Ford Supermodels of the World, The Pink Parrot, and the Dinosaur Detective books, about a boy named Fenton whose parents are curators at a museum in New York. However, his mother is sent on a dig to India, so his father takes him for a dig in Wyoming, where he and a couple of friends become involved in all kinds of mysteries about dinosaurs. The series includes On the Right Track (No. 1); Fair Play (No. 2); Bite Makes Right (No. 3); Out of Place (No. 4); Scrambled Eggs (No. 5); Night of the Carnotaurus (No. 6); The Competition (No. 7); and The Raptor’s Claw, No. 8, in which Fenton goes with his father on a trip back to the natural history museum in New York and solves the mystery surrounding the old paleontologist in the attic. The stories are well written and interesting to read, but there is a LOT of evolution in these books, even to the point of making arguments defending belief in evolution (what else can you expect from books published by The Scientific American?), so we finally stopped checking them out of the library.
