Mason, Jane B. Apollo 13: The Movie Storybook (copyrighted in 1995 by MCA Publishing Rights, a division of MCA, Inc., and published by Grosset and Dunlap of New York City, NY). This is an adaptation of the motion picture screenplay by John Sayles, William Broyles Jr., and Al Reinert of the movie Apollo 13 starring Tom Hanks, which in turn was based on the book Lost Moon by astronaut Jim Lovell written with Jeffrey Kluger, telling the true story of the Apollo 13 mission that almost ended in disaster. We did not see the movie, which relives the real-life thrills and chills as an ordinary expedition to the moon turns into a death-defying adventure for astronauts Jim Lovell, Jack Swigert, and Frank Haise, and I have been told that the language in it was a little rough, but this is not the case in this book. I did this as a read aloud to our younger son Jeremy, and he really enjoyed the suspense, as well as looking at the photographs taken from the movie.
