Skurzynski, Gloria. The Minstrel In The Tower (published in 1988 as “A Stepping Stone Book” by Random House of New York City, NY.) I purchased this book from Greenleaf Press. For several years we have been using historical fiction, including about the middle ages, for our family read alouds after lunch. This one is set in France about 1195. Roger and Alice’s father has gone on one of the Crusades, and now their mother is ill. The two children set out to find their long lost uncle, supposed to be a powerful baron. However, on their way, they are kidnapped by two scoundrels and locked in an ancient tower. Even though this book was intended for young readers, it is well written and very exciting. Even Mom found the story so interesting that she complained when Dad came to the end of a chapter. There is nothing untoward in the book.
