Helgesen, Clair, and Finucane, D. Gade.  Mary Alice in the Palace (published in 1967 by Reilly and Lee Co., Chicago, IL). Mary Alice goes to a palace inside of which is a zoo where all the animals are “geometric.” The authors say that the book was written and illustrated not only to please young children but also to heighten their enjoyment of the visual world around them by encouraging them to see more than just the obvious and look at things in a different way, to stimulate their imagination, and to show that there is humor everywhere. I personally did not care for this book as well as some of others that I read about the same time, but there is nothing wrong with it and some people might enjoy this type of thing. It is no longer in print.
