West, Cindy. That Tickles: The Disney Book of Senses (published in 1993 by Disney Press). When our boys were in their early elementary years and just learning how to read, we liked to supplement their studies with fun books to read. This book is a good accompaniment to a study in science or health of the senses. Mickey Mouse and his friends examine each of the five senses with close-ups of Mickey’s eyes, Minnie Mouse’s ears, Goofy’s mouth, Daisy Duck’s feet, and Donald Duck’s hands. It is a great book for several reasons. Cindy West’s text does a good job of explaining the basics. Also it has cute illustrations by Larry Moore. And it’s fun because it includes all of the most popular Disney characters. While there are some things about the modern Disney enterprises not to like, our kids were always big fans of the children’s Disney cartoons, so That Tickles was perfect for us.
