Dussling, Jennifer. Stars (published in 1996 by Grosset and Dunlap). This All Aboard Science Reader Station Stop 1 book is a good springboard to offer budding astronomers all the knowledge that they need to get started, with a beginning reader’s simple introduction to stars and constellations that combines fun illustrations with informative coverage of everything including the sun, moon, and planets. Jennifer Dussling’s text is straightforward and well supported by Mavis Davis’s full-color illustrations which are almost self-explanatory and will encourage youngsters to ask questions. The book is primarily designed for a very young reader. We used it as a complement to our older son Mark’s science studies when he was learning how to read. It does a great job in making a very complicated subject both interesting and easy to understand.
