Rivera, Jeff. My Two Uncles and Me (published in 2013 by Smashwords). Originally titled simply My Two Uncles, this book is narrated by a young girl who has two uncles who take her and her brother out together to play, bake cakes with them, help them with their school work, let them watch football games with them, take them to the doctor when they are sick, and put them to bed at night. The story is supposed to be warm and cute in a somewhat vaguely fuzzy sort of way. However, many parents will be extremely uncomfortable with some of the background explanation of the book.

My Two Uncles and Me is “Dedicated to our niece, Angerly, and to the Delgado-Castro Family that have accepted us into the family exactly how we are with open arms.” At the end, the author further says, “This book would not be possible without God and his help for me to accept myself exactly the way I am. I wanted to first thank my beautiful partner, Geovanny Delgado-Castro, his amazing family, and of course, my own nieces and nephews who I wrote this book for.” In fact, Amazon lists this book as “Teacher, Parent & LGBT Recommended for Kids 4-8.” For those who may not know, “LGBT” stands for “lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transsexual.”

Jeff Rivera is an author of books targeted for young adults, such as Oh Yes I Can (2003) and Forever My Lady (2007). His first book for children is Mommy, I Think I Flushed My Brother Down the Toilet. If you are looking for a book to present homosexual relationships to children as natural and normal, then My Two Uncles and Me will serve the purpose. However, if that is not what you want or it is not in harmony with your religious beliefs, then this book is not for you. At the present time, I believe that it is available only as an e-Book; the author sent a copy to me along with proofs of a couple other books of his to review.
