Nerland, Miranda. Why Do We Sing? (published in 2018 by DeWard Publishing Company Ltd., P. O. Box 6259, Chillicothe, OH 45601). “Sing to Him, sing psalms to Him; talk of all His wondrous works” (Psalm 105:2). All over the world, people sing. Whether they are humming to themselves or singing out loud, music is a part of every culture. Even little children do it naturally. But why should we sing to God? Author Miranda Nerland and illustrator Hayley O’Neal of Why Do We Worship? team up again in this excellent resource to explain to children how music is featured throughout the Scriptures and why God wants us to praise Him in song.
“Singing is just one of the beautiful ways we worship. We can praise God, learn lessons, tell stories, and encourage others all through the songs that we sing.” When we sing in worship, we tell God “thank You” and express the great joy of our hearts for all His blessings. Can you think of any other reasons why singing is a vital part of worship? “We are so blessed to have a God who hears and accepts our songs on Earth and who is waiting for us to sing to Him forever in Heaven!” Parents and Bible class teachers can use this book to encourage youngsters to join in singing to praise God. (By the way, I believe that I went to college with Miranda’s father-in-law.)
